The Spaniards aimed to spread Christianity and to conquer nations for Spain. Morong was the first town reached by the Spaniards on January 16, 1572. The Franciscans, first missionary group who arrived at Manila on 1577 were the same group whom Christianized Morong and the towns along Laguna de Bay like Angono, Binangonan, Cardona, Baras, Pililia, Tanay and Jalajala. Natives were baptized and catechized so "visitas" were built and with the increase of population, "parokya" or "parishes" were built. Binangonan was believed to have became one, when it separated from Morong on 1621. The name Binangonan came from the words "Ang lugar na Binangunan ng Bayan" Spaniards and Americans has influenced religious, politics, culture and education of the natives. On March 29, 1900, Binangonan became a town or municipality under Executive Order no. 40 under American Regime.

Rizal Province

Rizal is a province of the Philippines located in the CALABARZON region in Luzon, just 20 kilometers east of Manila. The province was named after the country's national hero, José Rizal. Rizal Governor Casimiro A. Ynares III on June 17, 2008 announced the transfer of the Capitol from Pasig. Its P 270-million capitol building, being constructed in Antipolo City by Ortigas & Co., owner thereof, will be completed by December. Built on 5-hectare lot at the Ynares Center, it will employ 2,008 employees. The New Capitol was successfully inaugurated on March 4, 2009, bringing back the Capitol Building inside the provincial territory that was gone for 33 years.

Rizal is bordered by Metro Manila to the west, the province of Bulacan to the north, Quezon to the east and Laguna province to the south. The province also lies on the northern shores of Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the country.

Rizal is a mountainous province perched on the western slopes of the southern portion of the Sierra Madre mountain range. Antipolo City boasts of a wonderful view of Metro Manila and it is where Hinulugang Taktak, a waterfall popular with tourists, can be found.

Talim Island

Talim Island is located at the center of the Laguna de Bay lake under the municipality of Binangonan on the western side and the municipality of Cardona on the eastern side in the province of Rizal. The island is rich in bamboo grass, with which islanders make different types of furniture such as bamboo sofas, cabinets, tables, chairs and a lot more. It is the main source of their living, while fishing on the lake is only secondary.

Two parishes are located in the island. Santo Domingo Parish is located at Janosa, Binangonan, and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish at Navotas, Cardona.

One famous feature of Talim Island are the "Bundok ng Susong Dalaga" (Maiden's breast mountains) - two huge mounds of conical hills resembling the female breast, which are the highest peaks of the island. These two hills are among the more famous of several hills in the Tagalog regions who share the same name, because local folks of old often named identical conical hills as such. This feature is best observed from neighboring Mount Sembrano across the lake.

The island consist of 26 barangays, 17 from Binangonan and 9 from Cardona.
